Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Sr. Litigation Attorney to lead complex civil litigation matters, manage all phases of case development, and achieve favorable resolutions for clients. The role focuses on commercial and construction-defect disputes through trial and alternative dispute resolution. The ideal candidate will have extensive courtroom and pretrial experience, strong motion practice and discovery skills, and the ability to mentor junior attorneys and collaborate with clients and experts.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a high-volume docket of complex civil litigation matters from intake through resolution, including commercial and construction-defect cases.
- Develop and execute litigation strategies, including case evaluation, evidentiary planning, and trial strategy for jury and bench trials.
- Lead and conduct all aspects of discovery: drafting and responding to written discovery, taking and defending depositions, managing document review, and coordinating e-discovery workflows.
- Prepare and argue substantive and procedural motions in state and federal court, including the Court of Common Pleas and other trial courts.
- Oversee trial preparation: prepare witnesses, draft trial briefs, examine and cross-examine witnesses, and manage exhibits and demonstratives.
- Handle alternative dispute resolution forums such as arbitration and mediations, negotiating settlements that align with client objectives.
- Supervise and mentor associates and paralegals, assigning tasks, reviewing work product, and providing training on litigation best practices and trial techniques.
- Communicate regularly with clients to provide case updates, develop litigation budgets, and advise on risk assessment and strategic choices.
- Coordinate with experts and consultants, manage expert discovery, and incorporate expert testimony into case strategy.
- Maintain high standards of ethical practice, litigation documentation, and case organization to meet firm and court deadlines.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and admission to the PA state bar
- Minimum 5+ years of civil litigation experience, with substantial time spent on commercial litigation and construction-defect matters a plus
- Experience in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas is a plus
- Proven courtroom experience including jury trials, bench trials, and arbitration hearings a plus
- Demonstrated expertise in discovery management, deposition practice, and motion practice in the Court of Common Pleas and comparable trial courts.
- Strong trial preparation skills, including witness preparation, evidence organization, and demonstrative exhibit development.
- Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills with a track record of persuasive briefs and successful oral argument.
- Experience supervising and mentoring junior attorneys and support staff.
- Ability to manage multiple matters, prioritize deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Client-focused mindset with strong interpersonal skills and experience advising corporate and institutional clients.
- Willingness to travel to court appearances, depositions, mediations, and client meetings as required.
