Step into a rewarding role supporting student success as a sign language interpreter in a school-based setting! This contract opportunity begins August 20th and continues through May 27th, offering consistent hours—35 hours per week—working closely with a 9th grade student.
The selected interpreter will play an essential part in ensuring classroom access for a student who is experiencing hearing loss and benefits from both signing and verbal instruction. You'll have the chance to use your skills in real-time, making a positive difference each day. Flexibility is key: the position is open to candidates interested in demonstrating abilities through a virtual platform.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience as a school-based sign language interpreter is strongly preferred
- Comfortable providing one-on-one support for high school students
- Ability to facilitate both sign and spoken communication in educational environments
- Adaptable and open to both in-person and virtual (voco) instruction
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver one-on-one sign language interpreting services during the school day
- Convey spoken and signed information between student and classroom staff
- Support classroom learning by ensuring full participation and understanding
