Key Qualifications:
- Valid South Carolina teaching certificate with a Visual Impairment (VI) Endorsement
- Previous experience as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) in school settings is desirable
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of collaborating with students, families, and educational teams
- Ability and willingness to travel to various schools within the district as an itinerant educator
- Flexible and adaptive approach to meet diverse student needs
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, fostering academic growth and independence
- Adapt general education curriculum and materials for accessibility using appropriate techniques and technology
- Conduct functional vision assessments and collaborate on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Offer guidance and training to classroom teachers and staff on effective practices and accommodations
- Serve as a resource for families, ensuring open communication and advocacy for student success
- Maintain accurate documentation on student progress and services delivered
- Travel between assigned schools to deliver both direct and consultative services
