Job Title: Lead Print Press and Bindery Operator – 2nd Shift
Job Description
The Lead Print Press and Bindery Operator oversees print and digital production on 2nd shift, ensuring all products meet specifications and quality standards while serving as the shift lead for the production team.
Responsibilities
- Lead and direct 2nd shift production personnel, assigning tasks and monitoring performance to maintain an efficient workflow and meet quality standards.
- Interact regularly with operators to clarify production requirements and ensure understanding of job specifications.
- Communicate production schedules, project status updates, and project specifications clearly to team members.
- Ensure all work areas are properly staffed and organized for maximum efficiency throughout the shift.
- Document all shift activities, including job progression, operational issues, and personnel-related matters.
- Provide daily updates to the production supervisor on the status of all jobs in progress.
- Operate printing, finishing, and shipping equipment within established production standards for quality, speed, and waste reduction.
- Read, understand, and follow instructions and specifications provided on job tickets.
- Perform quality control procedures on each project to verify accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Maintain equipment in accordance with company guidelines and scheduled maintenance procedures.
- Complete required training in hazardous communications, forklift operations, lockout/tagout, and the company safety program, and follow all safety regulations at all times.
- Communicate ideas, concerns, and production-related problems to leadership promptly and constructively.
- Assist in identifying and resolving mechanical problems with production equipment.
- Act as a proactive initiator of change by suggesting and supporting improvements to production methods and processes.
Essential Skills
- 3–5 years of experience in the printing industry.
- Hands-on experience operating printing presses and bindery equipment.
- Proficiency in machine operation within a production environment.
- Ability to lead as a shift operator and coordinate work across multiple stations.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical and production-related issues.
- Ability to interpret and follow detailed job tickets and production specifications.
- Commitment to safety practices, including hazardous communications, forklift operations, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Attention to detail and strong focus on quality control.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with bindery operations, including finishing and shipping processes.
- Experience in operating various printing machines and related equipment.
- Ability to work effectively in a laid-back yet production-focused environment.
- Comfort with rotating between different machines and stations as needed.
