Job Title: Part-Time EHS Manager (Consultant)
Job Description
This part-time EHS Manager (Consultant) role supports a food and beverage manufacturing and warehouse facility by serving as an extension of the onsite Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team. You will provide hands-on support across safety, environmental, training, compliance, and regulatory activities while collaborating closely with site EHS personnel and operational leadership. The position focuses on maintaining compliance with OSHA/VAOSHA and EPA requirements, supporting ongoing EHS initiatives, assisting with regulatory reporting and documentation, and reinforcing site safety programs.
Responsibilities
- Support site safety and environmental programs across the manufacturing and warehouse operations.
- Conduct facility walkthroughs and hazard assessments to identify risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist with regulatory data collection, documentation, and submissions to meet OSHA/VAOSHA and EPA requirements.
- Facilitate safety training sessions and EHS communications for employees at all levels of the organization.
- Support compliance tracking efforts and maintain audit readiness for internal and external reviews.
- Partner with supervisors and operational leaders to develop, implement, and follow up on corrective actions.
- Maintain EHS documentation and records, ensuring accuracy, organization, and accessibility.
- Assist with process safety management (PSM) and risk management program (RMP) activities when applicable.
- Support and execute existing EHS programs, including audits, inspections, corrective actions, employee engagement initiatives, and compliance activities across the site.
- Investigate incidents and near misses as needed, and contribute to root cause analysis and preventive measures.
- Work independently while integrating seamlessly with plant leadership and EHS staff, providing guidance and expertise without direct authority.
- Engage regularly with employees on the manufacturing floor and in warehouse operations to reinforce a strong safety culture.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience supporting EHS programs in manufacturing and/or warehousing environments.
- Strong understanding of OSHA and VAOSHA requirements and practical application in industrial settings.
- Working knowledge of EPA compliance requirements for industrial and manufacturing operations.
- Experience with process safety management (PSM) and risk management programs (RMP) in relevant environments.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct audits, inspections, and hazard assessments in active industrial facilities.
- Experience supporting or conducting incident investigations and contributing to corrective and preventive actions.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage employees at all levels.
- Ability to influence employees and leadership without direct authority, using collaboration and persuasion.
- Familiarity with safety management systems and structured EHS programs.
- Experience working in regulated industrial environments, including food and beverage or similar sectors.
- Ability to work effectively and safely within an active manufacturing and warehouse setting, including around industrial equipment and production areas.
- Clear, confident verbal and written communication skills for training, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience supporting audits and inspections, including preparation, execution, and follow-up, is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience managing contractor safety and ensuring alignment with site EHS requirements.
- Comfort working in a consulting capacity, balancing independent work with integration into existing plant teams.
Work Environment
This role is based onsite at a food and beverage manufacturing and warehouse facility. You will work approximately 2–3 days per week during an initial 3–6 month engagement, with the potential for extension. The environment includes regular exposure to the manufacturing floor, warehouse operations, industrial equipment, and production areas. You will collaborate closely with plant leadership, EHS staff, and frontline employees in a fast-paced, operational setting that requires situational awareness and adherence to safety practices.
