Job Description
This Mechanical Design Engineer role focuses on converting existing SolidWorks designs into CATIA V5 deliverables while supporting the design and development of custom material handling and lift assist equipment. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys detailed design work, maintains a strong attention to detail, and is comfortable working independently within a dynamic, customer-driven project environment.
Responsibilities
- Convert existing SolidWorks designs into accurate CATIA V5 models and drawings.
- Support an ongoing, customer-driven engineering project and drive design deliverables through to completion.
- Create, update, and maintain detailed mechanical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Ensure all designs meet customer specifications, integration requirements, and project standards.
- Collaborate with engineering and project teams to support timelines, milestones, and overall project objectives.
- Review, verify, and validate design accuracy throughout the conversion process from SolidWorks to CATIA V5.
- Contribute to the design and development of custom material handling and lift assist equipment.
- Work independently to manage assigned project tasks and deliver high-quality design outputs.
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve design issues.
- Apply strong problem-solving skills to address design challenges and improve design quality and efficiency.
Essential Skills
- 3–5 years of mechanical design engineering experience.
- Strong, hands-on experience with CATIA V5 for mechanical design and modeling.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks for mechanical design and documentation.
- Proven experience creating detailed mechanical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and a consistent commitment to design accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage assigned project work with minimal supervision.
- Detail-oriented and organized approach to design and documentation tasks.
- Self-motivated with the ability to stay focused on detailed, documentation-heavy work.
- Strong problem-solving skills applied to mechanical design challenges.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities in a collaborative engineering environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in the automotive industry.
- Background in custom equipment, machinery, tooling, or fixture design.
- End-of-arm tooling design experience, particularly for material handling or automation applications.
- Experience working directly with customer design requirements and specifications.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, customer-driven project setting.
- Ability to adapt to evolving project needs and priorities.
- Interest in gaining broader exposure to both CATIA V5 and SolidWorks within complex engineering projects.
Work Environment
This role is based onsite in either Dublin, OH or Bellefontaine, OH, within a collaborative design team that supports customer-specific material handling and automation projects. The environment offers exposure to a wide variety of custom equipment and tooling designs, as well as the opportunity to work extensively with both CATIA V5 and SolidWorks. The position is part of a high-visibility engineering project, with flexible office location options between the two sites and the potential for contract extension based on project needs. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Bellefontaine, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $36.06 - $43.27/hr.
