Key Qualifications:
- National-level certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS/ACVREP)
- Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired strongly preferred
- Ability to travel between multiple school sites within a district
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Passion for fostering independence and practical life skills
Primary Responsibilities:
- Directly provide orientation and mobility instruction to students across a range of grade levels
- Conduct assessments and develop individualized plans to address students’ unique needs
- Teach vital skills such as cane travel, use of assistive technology, navigating public spaces, and daily living tasks like shopping and money management
- Collaborate with school staff and family members to create supportive learning environments
- Guide and instruct on the safe use of guide dogs and other tools as appropriate
- Maintain detailed records of student progress and services delivered
