Job Title: Environmental Engineer / EHS Specialist
Job Description
This role oversees environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance for a chemical manufacturing facility, ensuring adherence to air, water, and waste regulations such as CAA, CWA, RCRA, SARA, CERCLA, and related state and local requirements. The Environmental Engineer / EHS Specialist manages waste profiling and disposal, conducts compliance inspections, prepares regulatory reports, and maintains comprehensive environmental records. The position provides technical support for plant projects to ensure cost-effective compliance with all applicable environmental statutes, regulations, and permits, while actively promoting a strong EHS culture across the site.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee compliance with air, water, and waste regulations, including CAA, CWA, RCRA, SARA, CERCLA, and equivalent state and city requirements for the facility.
- Communicate and promote the EHS program on an ongoing basis to drive awareness, engagement, and continuous improvement.
- Characterize, profile, and coordinate the disposal of solid and hazardous wastes in alignment with regulatory and company requirements.
- Ensure storage, handling, and removal of all wastes comply with applicable regulations in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Prepare, file, and manage a variety of environmental reports required by permits and regulatory agencies, including monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, biennial, and event-triggered submissions.
- Maintain current working knowledge of applicable environmental regulations, statutes, and permits, and apply this knowledge to day-to-day operations and long-term planning.
- Participate in internal company initiatives as a team member or leader to improve environmental performance and EHS processes.
- Formulate compliance strategies, define practical solutions, develop action plans, and organize technical information to support decision-making.
- Provide technical expertise in areas such as engineering, chemistry, and toxicology to support internal stakeholders and external customers.
- Track and interpret local, state, and federal environmental requirements, including CERCLA, SARA, CAA, RCRA, and CWA, and translate these into actionable site practices.
- Participate in facility inspections and follow up on findings to ensure full compliance with all regulatory and permit requirements.
- Work closely with environmental contractors, coordinate their activities on site, and manage and lead contractor relationships to ensure quality, safety, and compliance.
- Assist in closing out action items arising from internal and external audits, ensuring timely and effective completion.
- Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) as needed to identify and mitigate environmental and safety risks.
- Perform additional EHS-related duties as assigned to support overall site compliance and continuous improvement.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5 years of regulatory experience in a chemical manufacturing facility or equivalent environment.
- At least 2 years of experience with Title V air permitting and related air compliance activities.
- Demonstrated experience in environmental compliance, including air, water, and waste programs.
- Hands-on experience with environmental engineering, wastewater management, chemical waste handling, and waste management practices.
- Proficiency in environmental monitoring and reporting for regulatory compliance.
- Working knowledge of key environmental regulations and programs, including CAA, CWA, RCRA, SARA, and CERCLA.
- Experience supporting or leading EHS programs in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Ability to wear and work in required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hard hat, steel-toe shoes, gloves, and a respirator.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and implement compliance strategies.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
