Position Summary
The Investment Accounting & Underwriting Supervisor is responsible for supervising the daily accounting and underwriting functions of the private investment company while supporting the evaluation, monitoring, and financial performance of investment opportunities. This position oversees accounting operations, assists with underwriting and due diligence, and provides financial analysis to support strategic investment decisions.
The Supervisor serves as a key resource to the Senior Vice President by ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, maintaining sound accounting practices, evaluating investment risk, and supervising accounting personnel. The ideal candidate possesses strong accounting knowledge, underwriting experience, financial analysis skills, and the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced investment environment.
Essential Functions
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Supervise the daily accounting operations for the investment company and affiliated entities.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger activity.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Monitor cash flow, capital expenditures, and investment transactions.
- Assist in developing annual budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
- Ensure accurate recording of capital contributions, distributions, acquisitions, and investment activities.
- Coordinate annual audits and assist external auditors with requested documentation.
- Maintain effective internal accounting controls and financial reporting procedures.
Investment Underwriting
- Assist in evaluating new investment opportunities through financial analysis and underwriting.
- Analyze financial statements, tax returns, business performance, and cash flow.
- Perform financial due diligence on acquisitions and investment opportunities.
- Develop and maintain underwriting models to evaluate financial risk and expected returns.
- Assess borrower and sponsor financial strength, liquidity, and leverage.
- Prepare underwriting summaries and recommendations for executive management.
- Monitor the ongoing financial performance of existing investments.
- Assist in reviewing compliance with investment agreements and financial covenants.
Financial Analysis
- Prepare financial models supporting investment decisions.
- Analyze return on investment (ROI), internal rate of return (IRR), cash flow, and profitability.
- Evaluate investment performance against established financial objectives.
- Prepare executive reports summarizing portfolio performance.
- Research market conditions, industry trends, and economic factors affecting investments.
- Identify financial risks and recommend corrective actions.
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise accounting staff and assign daily workloads.
- Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback.
- Monitor employee productivity and ensure work is completed accurately and timely.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training new employees.
- Promote a collaborative, professional, and high-performing work environment.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Assist with implementing process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain appropriate documentation supporting financial transactions.
- Assist with developing and maintaining internal controls.
- Identify operational and financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Support regulatory reporting and compliance requirements as assigned.
Other Duties
- Prepare executive presentations and financial reports for senior leadership.
- Collaborate with legal counsel, financial institutions, auditors, and outside consultants.
- Participate in special projects, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Vice President.
