Empower students with visual impairments to discover their independence and succeed academically in a supportive educational setting. This opportunity as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired offers the rewarding chance to provide specialized instruction and advocacy for students who are blind or have low vision. You’ll collaborate with dedicated staff and families to create inclusive learning environments and meaningful educational experiences.
Desired Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience delivering individualized educational programs (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
- Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive materials for visually impaired learners
- Ability to assess students’ functional vision and adapt curriculum accordingly
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with students, parents, and multidisciplinary teams
- Commitment to fostering academic achievement and independence for each student
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments in various school settings
- Conduct functional vision assessments and contribute to IEP processes
- Adapt classroom materials and lesson plans to ensure accessibility
- Advise and support classroom teachers, offering strategies and resources for inclusion
- Teach students to use assistive devices and technologies
- Facilitate orientation and mobility training in collaboration with certified professionals
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and services delivered
