Job Title: Environmental Services Technician (3rd Shift)
Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment within a large hospital by thoroughly cleaning patient rooms and common areas, with an emphasis on discharge rooms that must be fully sanitized between patients. You will perform a wide range of housekeeping and janitorial tasks, use smartphone technology to receive assignments and access cleaning tutorials, and work across multiple floors in a fast-paced, trauma center setting. The position requires extensive walking, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to a demanding healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize hospital patient rooms, with a primary focus on rooms following patient discharge to ensure they are fully prepared for the next patient.
- Wipe down and disinfect equipment, furniture, and high-touch surfaces in patient rooms and common areas.
- Empty trash and bio-waste receptacles as assigned and replace liners in accordance with hospital procedures.
- Sweep, mop, and dust floors and surfaces throughout the hospital, including corridors, patient rooms, and support areas.
- Clean up spills promptly and thoroughly to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Use hospital-issued smartphones to receive daily assignments, work orders, and task updates.
- Access and follow cleaning tutorials and instructions via smartphone if unsure how to perform a specific cleaning task.
- Navigate multiple floors within a large hospital and learn the facility floor plan within a reasonable timeframe.
- Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure all areas meet hospital cleanliness and sanitation standards.
- Adhere to a rotating schedule that includes working every other weekend and every other major holiday.
- Follow attendance expectations, including adherence to a three-strike attendance policy.
- Comply with all hospital policies, safety procedures, and environmental services standards.
- Work patiently and professionally in a fast-paced, trauma center environment where exposure to potentially jarring situations may occur.
- Demonstrate reliability and consistency while spending significant time on your feet and walking throughout the hospital.
Essential Skills
- Experience performing housekeeping, cleaning, or janitorial duties, preferably in a healthcare or hospital environment.
- Ability to perform environmental services tasks such as mopping, sweeping, dusting, sanitizing, and trash removal.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced hospital facility, including a trauma center environment.
- Capability to be on your feet and walking for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Ability and willingness to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Experience using smartphone technology, including receiving assignments and accessing instructions or tutorials.
- Willingness to work a rotating schedule that includes every other weekend and every other major holiday.
- Ability to learn and navigate a large hospital floor plan within a reasonable amount of time.
- Reliability in adhering to attendance expectations, including a three-strike attendance policy.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous janitorial or housekeeping experience in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred.
- General janitorial or custodial experience in non-healthcare environments is beneficial.
- Experience in manufacturing or distribution environments with a strong interest in transitioning to healthcare is considered.
- High school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Experience performing environmental services tasks such as sanitizing, disinfecting, sweeping, mopping, and custodial work in large facilities.

Work Environment
This position is for 3rd shift, working 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, with a rotating schedule that includes every other weekend and every other major holiday.
