Job Description
Join a dynamic medical device manufacturing team as a Technician Level 2 Console Technician, where you will assemble, program, and test complex electro-mechanical, opto-mechanical, and optical sub-assemblies used in advanced medical laser console systems. You will play a key role in building high-quality medical equipment by integrating precision components, performing detailed diagnostics, and collaborating closely with engineering to ensure reliable, safe, and compliant products.
Responsibilities
- Assemble and integrate precision electro-mechanical, opto-mechanical, and optical components into medical laser console systems in accordance with detailed work instructions, drawings, and procedures.
- Program embedded hardware and software systems and configure firmware, parameters, and settings required for proper system operation.
- Conduct functional, diagnostic, and performance testing on sub-assemblies and final console systems using custom test fixtures, instrumentation, and test equipment.
- Document test results, work performed, configurations, and any non-conformances accurately in manufacturing records, databases, and electronic documentation systems.
- Troubleshoot issues arising during assembly or testing, diagnose problems down to the component level, and work cross-functionally with engineering and other teams to resolve them.
- Ensure strict compliance with safety procedures, laser safety practices, cleanroom requirements, and quality system regulations such as GMP and ISO standards.
- Support ongoing process improvement initiatives, including 5S and lean manufacturing practices, to enhance efficiency, quality, and consistency.
- Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, optical power meters, and alignment tools to perform detailed measurements, calibrations, and system alignments.
- Calibrate and verify the performance of electro-mechanical and optical subsystems to meet defined specifications and acceptance criteria.
- Follow ESD procedures and cleanroom protocols to protect sensitive components and maintain product integrity.
- Collaborate effectively with peers, technicians, and engineers in a fast-paced manufacturing environment to meet production goals and timelines.
- Handle and move assemblies and equipment safely, including occasional lifting of items up to 50 pounds, while maintaining proper ergonomic practices.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment assembling and testing complex sub-systems.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in testing roles, ideally 5 years, with a focus on electro-mechanical and optical systems.
- Demonstrated assembly knowledge combined with hands-on testing experience in a production or laboratory setting.
- Good mechanical aptitude, including comfort working with tools and mechanical systems, such as experience working on cars or similar mechanical projects.
- Proficiency with basic hand tools and mechanical assembly techniques.
- Proficient use of oscilloscopes, multimeters, optical power meters, and optical alignment tools.
- Strong understanding of laser safety, optical components, and test methodologies for laser-based systems.
- Experience assembling optical systems, including lenses, filters, mirrors, and beam paths, and applying laser safety practices.
- Skilled in diagnosing electronic, optical, mechanical, and software issues, including the ability to diagnose down to the component level.
- Excellent attention to detail, quality mindset, and strong documentation discipline.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and recording technical information.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and electronic manufacturing documentation.
- Knowledge of ESD procedures and cleanroom protocols.
- Ability to sit, stand, and perform fine motor tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds safely.
- Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and contribute positively to a team-oriented culture.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 3–5 years or more of experience in manufacturing, testing, or maintenance roles involving electro-mechanical or optical systems.
- Experience as a maintenance technician or similar role with strong mechanical abilities and comfort using tools.
- Experience with laser-based systems, including optical alignment and beam path setup.
