Job Title: Punch Press OperatorJob DescriptionThis role operates and maintains punch press equipment in a manufacturing environment to produce high-quality parts that meet customer specifications. The Punch Press Operator follows detailed work instructions, reads and interprets blueprints and routers, performs dimensional and visual inspections, and completes preventative maintenance on assigned presses while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
Responsibilities- Lubricate machine parts in accordance with established work instructions to ensure proper operation and minimize wear.
- Operate punch press equipment to perform required operations and produce parts to specified standards.
- Read and interpret routers, blueprints, and sketches to determine dimensional specifications, tolerances, and operating requirements.
- Dimensionally and visually inspect parts produced to verify they meet customer requirements and quality standards.
- Perform required preventative maintenance procedures on assigned presses within specified time frames.
- Ensure all preventative maintenance in the department is completed in accordance with the preventative maintenance schedule.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area at all times by following 5S methods.
- Assist with machine setup and adjustments as needed to support production requirements.
- Operate related equipment such as press brakes and other machines as assigned.
- Follow all safety procedures and report any equipment issues or safety concerns promptly.
- Support general labor tasks in the department as needed to meet production goals.
- Participate in on-the-job training to continually improve skills related to job duties.
Essential Skills- High school diploma or GED.
- 0–2 years of demonstrated experience for Level 1 Punch Press Operator, 2–5 years of demonstrated experience for Level 2 Punch Press Operator, and 5 or more years of demonstrated experience for Level 3 Punch Press Operator.
- Experience operating punch press equipment in a manufacturing or similar environment.
- Ability to read and interpret routers, blueprints, and part sketches.
- Proficiency in basic math, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to perform dimensional and visual inspections of parts to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Capability to perform preventative maintenance tasks on production machinery within defined time frames.
- Physical ability to regularly talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and to frequently reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to drive and operate a forklift.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Some vocational or technical training related to manufacturing, machining, or industrial maintenance is preferred.
- Forklift operator certification is preferred.
- Experience operating press brakes and other production machinery is beneficial.
- Familiarity with 5S or similar workplace organization methods.
- Comfort working in a manufacturing shop environment with moderate noise and occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and to toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Willingness to participate in continuous on-the-job training to enhance skills and performance.
