Job Title: Class A CDL DriverJob DescriptionThe Class A CDL Driver safely loads, secures, transports, and delivers building materials to customer locations and job sites while providing professional, customer-focused service. This role combines commercial driving, hands-on material handling, and on-site customer interaction, ensuring accurate deliveries, proper material placement, and compliance with all safety and DOT regulations.
Responsibilities- Load, secure, transport, and deliver building materials to customers and job sites safely, accurately, and on schedule.
- Position vehicles and equipment properly for safe loading and unloading at customer locations and construction sites.
- Assist customers with material placement at job sites while protecting products, structures, and customer property.
- Verify orders against delivery paperwork, including tickets and invoices, to ensure accurate and complete deliveries.
- Maintain accurate delivery, mileage, and inspection records in accordance with company and DOT requirements.
- Serve as the primary on-site contact for customers, addressing questions, resolving issues, and representing the company professionally.
- Operate a forklift or similar material-handling equipment to load, unload, and stage building materials at the yard and job sites.
- Secure, unsecure, and re-strap loads throughout the day to ensure safe transportation between delivery locations.
- Complete all required DOT compliance activities, including Hours of Service logs, Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs), and pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Maintain a clean, professional vehicle and perform routine safety checks to ensure roadworthiness.
- Follow all company safety policies, DOT regulations, and safe load securement practices at all times.
- Unload, stage, and place materials at active construction sites in accordance with customer expectations and site requirements.
- Communicate effectively with site coordinators, contractors, and other job site personnel to coordinate deliveries and material placement.
- Work independently in the field, making sound decisions to ensure safe, efficient, and customer-focused deliveries.
Essential Skills- Valid CDL Class A license with a safe driving record.
- Demonstrated experience driving and operating Class A commercial vehicles.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers, contractors, and job site personnel.
- Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding, hands-on work, including unloading, staging, securing, and re-securing materials throughout the day.
- Comfort working independently in the field while maintaining clear communication with customers and internal teams.
- Ability to secure, unsecure, and re-strap loads safely and efficiently to ensure proper load securement during transport.
- Capability to operate or learn to operate forklifts or other material-handling equipment safely.
- Attention to detail to accurately verify orders, review delivery documentation, and maintain required records.
- Commitment to safety and compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and safe work practices.
- Physical ability to regularly lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 80 pounds occasionally, and to perform frequent bending, reaching, walking, and climbing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience delivering building materials, lumber, or construction-related products.
- Experience operating a forklift or similar material-handling equipment in a yard, warehouse, or job site environment.
- Experience loading, unloading, staging, and securing materials at customer job sites.
- Ability to accurately review and interpret delivery tickets, invoices, and other delivery documentation.
- Experience transporting and securing loads on flatbed trailers.
- Familiarity with active construction sites, including site safety practices and coordination with site personnel.
- Willingness to complete hands-on training and obtain forklift certification provided by the company.
- Interest in cross-training and developing additional skills to support different departments or locations.
