Job Title: Mold Setter
Job Description
The Mold Setter is responsible for performing mold changes and ensuring that injection and stretch/blow molding equipment is correctly set up, wired, and ready for production. This role combines mechanical and electrical work on molds with machine operation and troubleshooting to support efficient and high-quality plastics manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Perform mold changes on injection and stretch/blow molding machines according to production requirements and established procedures.
- Set up molding machines, including mechanical adjustments, electrical connections, and hydraulic configurations to ensure proper operation.
- Complete mechanical and electrical wiring on molds, verifying all connections for safety and functionality.
- Operate molding equipment to support production, monitoring machine performance and making necessary adjustments.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on molds and machines to minimize downtime and maintain throughput.
- Interpret and work from blueprints and technical documentation when setting up and adjusting molds and machinery.
- Assist with changeovers between different molds and products, ensuring accurate setup and efficient transitions.
- Perform general labor tasks related to mold setting and production support as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-compliant work area within a highly regulated, temperature-controlled environment.
- Collaborate with production and maintenance teams, helping wherever needed to get the job done and support continuous operations.
- Follow all safety guidelines, including proper use of required personal protective equipment, during machine operation and mold handling.
- Participate in training and skill development activities to improve mold setting, troubleshooting, and machine operating capabilities.
Essential Skills
- 2–4 years of experience as a Mold Operator or in a similar mold setting role (MO experience).
- Hands-on experience with injection molds and stretch/blow mold processes in a production environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform mechanical adjustments and set up machines.
- Basic to intermediate electrical skills, including wiring and connecting molds and related equipment.
- Working knowledge of hydraulics and their application in molding machinery.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on production equipment.
- Experience operating production machinery in a manufacturing setting.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation.
- Comfort performing general labor tasks in support of mold setting and production.
- Reliability and flexibility to work rotating 3rd shift 12-hour schedules (6:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.) after training.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and regulatory requirements in a highly controlled environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in plastics manufacturing or bottling environments.
- Familiarity with production processes supporting consumer products and packaging.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where helping wherever needed is valued.
- Strong attention to detail and quality when setting up molds and operating equipment.
- Willingness to participate in up to 6 months of day-shift training (Monday–Friday) prior to moving to night shift.
- Ability to adapt to a rotating schedule and long shifts while maintaining performance and focus.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Iowa City, IA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.50 - $23.50/hr.
