Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced IP Associate to support a broad range of intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution and patent litigation. The successful candidate will advise clients across technology sectors, draft and prosecute patent applications, manage enforcement and defense strategies, and work closely with partners and inventors to protect and maximize clients' IP assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO and other foreign patent offices, including preparing responses to office actions and coordinating international filings.
- Manage and support patent litigation matters: prepare pleadings, discovery requests and responses, claim construction briefs, expert reports, and motion practice; assist in trial preparation and hearings.
- Conduct and supervise patentability, freedom-to-operate, validity, and infringement analyses; prepare written opinions and strategic recommendations for clients.
- Represent clients before administrative forums (e.g., PTAB) and coordinate with external counsel where appropriate.
- Maintain and manage docketing and prosecution timelines, ensuring timely filings and compliance with client instructions.
- Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and business teams to capture inventions, counsel on IP strategy, and align patenting efforts with commercial objectives.
- Mentor junior associates, patent agents, and paralegals; contribute to knowledge sharing and internal training programs.
- Support client development and business growth by participating in pitches, client meetings, and by drafting marketing materials and thought leadership pieces.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; admission to the USPTO (registered patent attorney) strongly preferred.
- Technical undergraduate or advanced degree in engineering, computer science, physics, biotechnology, chemistry, or a related field (e.g., B.S., M.S., Ph.D.) sufficient for patent practice.
- 3+ years of experience handling patent prosecution and at least some experience in patent litigation or post-grant proceedings (PTAB, IPRs) experience should demonstrably include IP, patent litigation, and patent prosecution.
- Proven drafting skills for patent applications, office action responses, litigation briefs, and expert reports; strong analytical and legal research abilities.
- Practical experience with claim construction, infringement and validity analyses, and coordinating multi-jurisdictional prosecution and enforcement strategies.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong client-facing abilities, and the capacity to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing deadlines, prioritize tasks, and maintain high quality under pressure; commitment to professional development and teamwork.
