Job Title: Ready Mix Plant Maintenance Supervisor
Job Summary
The Plant Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and reliability of ready-mix plants and associated equipment across different sites, while also supervising and supporting employees in the field. This role ensures that both equipment and personnel are aligned to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.
The Plant Maintenance Supervisor leads maintenance activities, supervises employees, and serves as a key field leader coordinating between operations, plant operators, and management.
This position requires flexibility to work early mornings, late evenings, and weekends, Travel 75% in support of operational demands.
Key Responsibilities
1. Equipment Maintenance & Management
- Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance for ready-mix plants and related equipment.
- Ensure equipment is safe, operational, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in the field.
- Maintain accurate service records and ensure equipment is prepared for mobilization.
2. Workforce Supervision & Field Leadership
- Supervise and provide direction to employees, including drivers, plant operators, and laborers.
- Assign daily tasks, monitor productivity, and ensure safe, efficient performance.
- Act as the primary field leader to enforce company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Coach and mentor employees to promote accountability and skill development.
4. Plant Support
- Provide coverage on a plant level with operations when assigned by leadership.
- Assist with troubleshooting and equipment maintenance at all locations.
- Support supervisors in coordinating employee and equipment needs.
5. Safety & Compliance
- Enforce compliance with company, OSHA, DOT, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct and document safety inspections of equipment and job sites.
- Ensure employees follow lockout/tagout procedures, PPE requirements, and safe work practices.
- Participate in and lead safety meetings at plant sites.
6. Communication & Coordination
- Report directly to the Operations Manager with updates on equipment status, employee performance, and operational needs.
- Coordinate with dispatch, quality control, and drivers to maintain production flow.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to secure parts, service, and technical support.
7. Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
- Track employee performance, attendance, and compliance with company policies.
- Assist with budgeting and cost tracking for portable maintenance and operations.
- Provide management with reports on equipment reliability and workforce productivity.
Critical Skills
- Leadership: Ability to supervise and motivate project employees in the field.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of portable batch plants, mixers, conveyors, and heavy equipment.
- Problem-Solving: Skilled in troubleshooting and resolving urgent issues under pressure.
- Flexibility: Capable of shifting between project-based and local operations as business needs require.
- Safety-Minded: Strong commitment to workplace and regulatory safety compliance.
- Communication: Clear and professional interaction with employees, management, and vendors.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in ready mix, construction materials, or heavy equipment maintenance.
- Prior supervisory or management experience required.
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Valid driver’s license with clean MVR; CDL preferred but not required.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively to project sites.
- Flexibility to occasionally work at local plants when assigned.
- Ability to work early mornings, late nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
