Position Summary
International Building Products, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Construction Specialties Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive estimates for commercial construction projects involving specialty building products. This role is responsible for reviewing plans and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, coordinating vendor pricing, preparing bid proposals, and supporting projects from pre-bid through award and handoff.
The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, deadline-driven, and comfortable communicating with general contractors, architects, suppliers, and internal team members.
Key Responsibilities
· Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and bid documents to identify applicable construction specialties scope.
· Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for specialty products such as lockers, toilet partitions, washroom accessories, visual display boards, fire protection specialties, wall protection, and related Division 10 items.
· Solicit, review, and compare vendor and supplier quotes to ensure pricing accuracy, compliance, and competitiveness.
· Prepare bid proposals, scope clarifications, exclusions, alternates, and follow-up documentation for general contractors and project stakeholders.
· Track bid opportunities, deadlines, addenda, and project updates to ensure timely and complete submissions.
· Communicate with architects, general contractors, vendors, and internal team members to clarify project requirements and resolve questions.
· Maintain organized records of estimates, quotes, correspondence, drawings, and project documentation.
· Assist with project handoff after award, including scope review, pricing details, vendor information, and key project requirements.
· Support and revise estimates when project scope changes.
· Stay informed on product lines, construction industry trends, material pricing, and specification requirements.
Qualifications
· Experience in commercial construction estimating, construction specialties, architectural specialties, or a related subcontractor environment preferred.
· Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, schedules, addenda, and bid instructions.
· Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
· Experience with estimating software, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar takeoff tools preferred.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to follow up professionally and clearly.
· Ability to manage multiple bids, shifting priorities, and time-sensitive deadlines.
· Self-motivated team player with a strong sense of accountability and follow-through.
Preferred Knowledge
· Division 10 construction specialties and related commercial building products.
· Commercial bid process, project specifications, and general contractor requirements.
· Vendor quote review, scope comparison, and cost control practices.
· Submittal coordination, project handoff, and change order support.
Work Environment and Expectations
· Office-based estimating role with regular computer, phone, and email communication.
· Must be able to work independently while coordinating effectively with the sales, project management, and operations teams.
