Position Summary
BEC is seeking a proactive and field-oriented Safety Superintendent to support and oversee safety and compliance programs across our California operations. This role is responsible for implementing and monitoring company safety programs, conducting field safety inspections, supporting project teams, and promoting a culture of safety throughout all levels of the organization.
The Safety Superintendent will work closely with HR, executive leadership, project managers, and union personnel to ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA regulations, customer safety requirements, and industry best practices.
This position provides safety oversight for approximately 100 employees, including 70 union field installers performing commercial construction, low-voltage, and fire alarm system work throughout California.
Essential Responsibilities
Field Safety Leadership
- Conduct routine jobsite safety inspections and audits throughout California.
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and work with field supervision to implement corrective actions.
- Prepare and distribute jobsite inspection reports, communicate identified hazards and corrective actions to appropriate stakeholders, and track corrective actions through completion.
- Prepare and/or assist project teams with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), Pre-Task Plans (PTPs), and Corrective Action Plans (CAPs).
- Monitor compliance with company safety policies, customer requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in pre-task planning and safety meetings.
- Support field personnel with hazard recognition and risk mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate with customer representatives, general contractors, and subcontractors regarding project safety requirements and corrective actions.
- Travel regularly to project sites throughout California.
Safety Program Administration
- Support the administration and maintenance of the company's Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
- Support administration of written safety programs.
- Monitor field implementation of company safety programs and regulatory requirements.
Incident Management
- Investigate accidents, near misses, injuries, and property damage incidents.
- Assist with root-cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Prepare, submit, and maintain incident reports and related documentation for company management and regulatory agencies, when applicable.
- Support OSHA recordkeeping and injury reporting requirements.
- Monitor trends and recommend preventive measures.
Training & Compliance
- Conduct new-hire safety orientations.
- Lead weekly toolbox talks, safety meetings, and ongoing safety training.
- Verify employee compliance with required certifications, licenses, and training.

Safety Culture & Leadership
- Promote a positive and proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
- Build strong working relationships with HR, project teams, and field personnel.
- Encourage employee engagement in hazard identification and reporting.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a field safety resource for employees and supervisors.
- Demonstrate a record of professional integrity and sound judgment in safety-related decision-making.
- Exercise independent judgment and authority to address unsafe conditions, stop work when necessary, and escalate safety concerns that may place employees, customers, or the company at risk.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and complete safety records, inspection reports, investigation files, training records, and compliance documentation.
- Track, analyze, and report safety performance metrics.
- Work closely with HR on workers' compensation case management and return-to-work programs.
- Complete contractor safety pre-qualification submissions and safety-related documentation requests.
- Review cont
