We are hiring for a Roadway Trainer on behalf of an established transportation infrastructure management company. Based in the Northern Virginia market, this dual-function position bridges technical instruction with active field operations.
Location: Manassas, VA
Schedule: 4-day 10-hour shift schedule (potentially day and night shifts open)
Compensations: $36.00-$40.00 DOE
Responsibilities
- Build and execute comprehensive training programs for highway maintenance, traffic control, and emergency scene management compliant with state and federal safety regulations.
- Conduct hands-on field coaching and interactive classroom sessions for highway technicians on proper equipment operation, pavement repairs, and hazard mitigation.
- Assess technician skill sets through field observations, identifying operational gaps and partnering with leadership to establish structured career progression tracks.
- Manage learning records, track team certifications, and ensure full compliance documentation within digital training databases.
- Serve as an active operational technician when called upon, supporting highway maintenance, incident response commands, or winter weather operations.
- Coordinate specialized equipment demonstrations and third-party vendor training sessions.
Qualifications and Key Skills
- 3 to 5+ years of practical experience in highway maintenance, traffic management, or emergency incident command frameworks.
- Prior background in field training, mentoring, or technical instruction is strongly preferred.
- High school diploma required; formal trade certifications, instructor credentials, or OSHA/DOT safety backgrounds are a plus.
- Computer literacy with proficiency in digital recordkeeping, learning management systems, and presentation software.
- Strong presentation and interpersonal skills, with the talent to communicate complex operational protocols clearly to crew members of varying experience levels.
- Ability to handle the physical demands of field duty, including working in outdoor weather conditions, operating around active traffic, and accessing elevated structures or bucket trucks.
- Clean driving record and valid driver's license.
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including night shifts, weekends, or emergency weather callbacks.
