Amped Kitchens
$120,000–$140,000 + Performance Bonus
- Full-Time
- Los Angeles
- Hybrid
Amped Kitchens is a real estate operating company that owns and operates commercial food production facilities in Los Angeles and Chicago. Since we opened in 2015, we’ve pioneered the large-scale, multi-tenant commercial kitchen model, serving CPG brands, restaurant groups, caterers, meal-subscription companies, and other food businesses producing at scale.
Unlike a traditional landlord, we combine real estate with hands-on property operations and client service.
After more than a decade of operating and refining our model, we’re strengthening our leadership team and formalizing our financial and operating processes to prepare for disciplined growth. We’re looking for a Controller to lead the accounting function and help us do that well.
The Role
You’ll own Amped’s accounting function and oversee payroll and financial administration. You’ll report directly to the CEO and work closely with our fractional CFO, Director of Facilities, Tenant Coordinators, and outside accounting and audit partners.
The near-term priority is to improve the month-end and quarter-end close, financial reporting, controls, data quality, and property-level accounting processes across the company.
You’ll work closely with our fractional CFO to turn reliable financial data into useful forecasts, management dashboards, financial analysis, and decision support for the CEO and operating leaders.
Responsibilities
Accounting and Reporting
- Lead the month-end and quarter-end close and prepare financial statements across multiple properties and SPEs.
- Maintain the general ledger, including reconciliations, accruals, intercompany activity, and supporting schedules.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, client billing, collections reporting, cash application, and cash management.
- Oversee lease accounting, recurring client charges, security deposits, utility recoveries, fixed assets, and capital-project accounting.
- Coordinate with outside accounting, audit, tax, banking, and other financial partners.
Controls and Property Accounting
- Strengthen and streamline internal controls, accounting procedures, approval workflows, and documentation.
- Oversee the financial processes behind leasing, client onboarding, billing, collections, renewals, and move-outs.
- Partner with Facilities, Leasing, and Property Operations on purchasing, project budgets, billing, reporting, and cost control.
- Train onsite Tenant Coordinators on transaction processing and lease administration, review their work, and establish consistent workflows across properties.
- Document and standardize financial procedures across properties and entities.
Management Reporting and CFO Support
- Coordinate the annual budgeting process and maintain budget-to-actual reporting.
- Produce property-level and consolidated financial reporting.
- Maintain the financial data and recurring reports used in company dashboards.
- Investigate material variances, unusual trends, and discrepancies, and explain what’s driving them.
- Work with the fractional CFO on forecasting, cash planning, financial analysis, and executive reporting.
Payroll and Administration
- Oversee payroll, benefits administration, onboarding and offboarding, employee records, and routine HR compliance through ADP TotalSource.
- Oversee corporate insurance administration, including renewals, claims, and related lender and company documentation.
- Improve our use of AppFolio and other financial and administrative systems.
What We’re Looking For
- Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Property Accountant with substantial month-end close responsibility.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting.
- Experience in commercial real estate, property management, hospitality, or another multi-location operating business strongly preferred.
- Experience preparing financial statements and managing property-level or multi-entity accounting.
- Strong understanding of internal controls and process improvement.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to explain accounting issues and financial results clearly to operating leaders.
- CPA or CMA certification
