Infusion RN - Per Diem*
*IMPORTANT NOTE: In lieu of benefits due to "per diem" status, 15% will be added to the hourly rate. Per diem employees are offered work on an "as-needed" basis.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures; provides age appropriate care from the age of 8 years old, through the geriatric patient based on the population served; assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team; demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and meet the individual needs of all patients served.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education Required:
- Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of Nursing.
Licensure Required:
- Current Nevada RN license.
Certification Required:
- American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers.
Certification Preferred:
- ONS/ONCC Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate or willing to complete within 6 months.
Minimum Work Experience Required:
- Professional customer service skills.
Minimum Work Experience Preferred:
- Two (2) years minimum nursing experience preferred.
- Ability to read and communicate in English, bilingual abilities preferred.
- Previous Infusion nursing experience preferred.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Patient Care
- Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients.
- Performs admission assessment upon admission or in accordance with specific unit standards.
- Identifies and documents patient needs and treatment plan upon admission.
- Identifies patients requiring IV therapy who are high risk, and will require long-term therapy or who have other critical IV-related needs.
- Identifies and documents patient/family/significant other teaching needs relative to IV therapy upon admission and as needed.
- Assist with telemedicine including the use of connected electronic tools to assist provider with assessment.
Treatment Plan
- Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic treatment plan for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other in order to address all identified needs.
- Develops a preliminary plan for meeting IV therapy needs of the identified patient, including those with special needs.
- Treatment plan will include recommendations for IV access, placement and maintenance.
- Collaborates with the physician to ensure the treatment is implemented and carried out successfully.
Judgment
- Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical treatment plan, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
- Demonstrates knowledge of commonly used meds: action, dose, and side effects.
- Demonstrates proper procedures in all methods of medication administration, including infusion therapy.
- Demonstrates problem solving skills through knowledge, research, and practice.
- Demonstrates knowledge of hospital policies and procedures for administering, transcribing, and recording medications.
- Demonstrates knowledge of hospital policies and procedures for transfusion of blood and blood products.
- Observes 10 rights of medication administration: right med, right dose, right time, right route, right patient, right education, right documentation, right to refuse, right assessment, right evaluation.
- Administers blood and blood products following hospital policy and procedures.
- Initiates and maintains IV access according to hospital policy and procedures.
- Assesses and documents IV site per unit standard.
Quality of Care
- Evaluates the identified problems, care provided and the patient's response in order to meet patient and family needs to ensure overall quality of care delivered.
