- 30 hours per week, with the possibility of additional hours as needed

Position Overview
An exciting opportunity has opened within KCP’s North America Packaging Team for a Packaging Engineer I. This pivotal role supports the packaging development of products brought to market and works closely with customers, Category Management, and Platform Management teams.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in corrugated box design and advanced ArtiosCAD skills. Experience with International Paper, WestRock, or Pratt is a strong plus.
The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for supporting packaging development for both new and existing products while delivering innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable packaging solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop innovative and cost-effective packaging solutions that minimize costs, add customer value, and advance sustainability goals for KCP and its stakeholders.
- Understand and continually improve existing KCP packaging and packaging equipment capabilities to better meet customer and end-user requirements.
- Recommend and support packaging development programs that:
- Reduce distribution costs
- Minimize product damage
- Provide competitive advantage
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with packaging suppliers.
- Maintain current knowledge of packaging materials, technologies, equipment, and industry developments.
- Understand and communicate the impact and relevant details of applicable North American packaging legislation.
- Assist with and coordinate packaging testing in accordance with ISTA and ASTM test methods.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support packaging development from concept through implementation.
- Ensure packaging design, structural development, and final artwork are properly aligned.
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced experience with CAD and corrugated box design.
- Advanced proficiency in ArtiosCAD.
- Expert-level proficiency with TOPS palletization software — required.
- Ability to conceptualize and design tests/experiments to generate relevant data.
- Knowledge of and experience with industry-standard test procedures for packaging materials and finished packages.
- Understanding of the relationship between final artwork and package structural design.
- Awareness of applicable packaging laws and regulations.
- General understanding of packaging material suppliers' manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of KCP and customer distribution requirements.
- Knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and procedures related to packaging materials and packaging solutions.
Preferred Experience
- Experience designing corrugated boxes and packaging structures.
- Experience with ArtiosCAD at an advanced level.
- Experience with TOPS palletization software at an expert level.
- Previous experience with International Paper, WestRock, or Pratt is a plus.
- Experience with ISTA and ASTM packaging testing is preferred.
- Experience working with packaging suppliers and manufacturing processes is beneficial.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Science, Industrial Design, or a related discipline.
- Approximately 3 years of related experience is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and support projects independently.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, cross-functional environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- The ideal candidate is a hands-on packaging professional with strong expertise in corrugated packaging design, ArtiosCAD, and TOPS palletization. They should be comfortable working independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams, packaging suppliers, and customers to develop packaging solutions that balance cost, performance, sustainability, manufacturability, and distribution requirements.
