Job description:

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Natural Gas Distribution Operator to operate heavy equipment and assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of natural gas distribution systems. The Operator will play a key role in efficiently completing field work in compliance with all regulations and company standards, with a focus on safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate various types of construction equipment including backhoes, mini excavators, and skid steers to install and repair gas pipelines.
• Perform daily inspections and maintenance checks on equipment to ensure safe operating conditions.
• Excavate trenches, backfill, compact soil, and perform restoration tasks in accordance with specifications and safety standards.
• Assist crew members with pipe handling, fusion, valve installations, and service connections.
• Maintain a clean and organized work site, ensuring tools and materials are safely stored and handled.
• Read and interpret construction plans, maps, and work orders.
• Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
• Coordinate with the foreman and other crew members to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and on schedule.
• Use hand tools and small power tools as needed to support job site activities.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in natural gas distribution construction with equipment operation.
• Proficient in operating heavy machinery relevant to underground utility work.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL Class A highly preferred.
• Operator Qualifications (OQ) for natural gas construction preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Knowledge of excavation safety (e.g., trench boxes, shoring) and utility locating practices.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Attention to safety and quality.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.

Working Conditions:

• Outdoor work environment exposed to varying weather and site conditions.
• Physically demanding, lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, kneeling, standing for long periods.
• Frequent travel to local job sites within our service territory.
