Legal File Clerk / Records & Information Coordinator
Location: Downtown Houston, TX
Schedule: Hybrid – 4 days in office / 1 day remote
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $43k - $57k+ bonus + excellent benefits
About the Opportunity
A well-established and highly respected law firm in Downtown Houston is seeking a Legal File Clerk / Records & Information Coordinator to join its professional support team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with law firm or legal industry experience who is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and takes pride in doing quality work. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and enjoy supporting attorneys, paralegals, and staff in a fast-paced professional environment.
What You'll Do
- Maintain accurate and organized physical and electronic client/matter files.
- File, scan, organize, retrieve, and distribute legal documents and records.
- Create and maintain electronic folders and matter workspaces.
- Assist attorneys, paralegals, and staff with locating and retrieving files.
- Maintain organized file rooms, work rooms, and office files.
- Prepare closed matters for off-site storage and retrieve archived files as needed.
- Assist with file transfers to clients, other law firms, and outside parties.
- Assist with file closing, retention, and destruction procedures.
- Support the firm's document and records management systems.
- Assist users with basic questions regarding document organization, searches, and file requests.
- Identify and report system issues to the appropriate department.
- Coordinate with off-site storage and document destruction vendors.
- Assist with scanning, shredding, and other records-related projects.
- Provide backup support and assist with special projects as needed.
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in a law firm, legal department, or professional services environment.
- Experience with legal files, records management, document management, or legal administrative support preferred.
- Strong work ethic and dependable, team-oriented attitude.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to learn and work with document and records management systems.
- Professional and personable communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while also being a strong team player.
Preferred Experience
Experience with iManage Work, iManage Records Manager, Juris, or other legal document/records management systems is a plus.
