JOB DESCRIPTION

Lead Teacher—ages three to five

Department: Early Education Program

Reports to: Director of Programs and Assistant Director of Programs

SUMMARY:

Teaches preschool curriculum to all children, those with disabilities and those who are typically developing. Individualizes programming through the use of developmentally appropriate practices to accommodate the strengths and needs of each child.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follows Project Construct Curriculum framework and prepares lesson plans for age group, taking into consideration each child’s individual goals across all developmental categories.
• Collects data and monitors educational or therapeutic goal implementation in the classroom.
• Maintains individual child portfolios for every child.
• Completes the Battelle Developmental Screening for all newly enrolled children within the first 30 days and reviews each child’s screening at least annually.
• Completes individual assessments for each child prior to biannual Parent/Teacher conferences (April/October). Discusses concerns, priorities, and resources available to them.
• Writes biannual progress reports for all children (January/July).
• Follows through with the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) goals and objectives as directed by the school district.
• Trains Assistant Teaching Staff and Volunteers in NEEC philosophy, mission, services, policies, and procedures.
• Trains Assistant Teaching Staff and Volunteers regarding each child’s needs and strengths.
• Monitors Assistant Teaching staff to ensure their understanding and implementation of each child’s educational, therapy and/or behavioral goals.
• Maintains positive communication with families regarding all aspects of child’s development, NEEC events, and other important information in the form of daily notes, parent email blasts, phone calls, and/or personal conversations.
• Maintains strict confidentiality with regard to children and family information
• Participates in staff meetings, Lead Teacher meetings, IEP meetings, transition meetings, and other meetings as directed.
• Completes a minimum of 12 clock hours of approved training.
• Communicates accurately and positively with staff, community, families, and other providers, ensuring the development of the most appropriate program for each child.
• Monitors the consistent application of policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Maintains a clean and orderly classroom to promote a positive learning environment.
• Ensures the safety of each child in the classroom.
• Completes other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Require a minimum of an Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, a related field or is actively working towards a degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, or other related field; Prefer at least one year of experience in working with preschool children.

MATH AND LANGUAGE ABILITY:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals and safety rules. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to children, families and co-workers. Ability to count ratios of children to staff in the classroom.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:

Infant/Child CPR and First Aid are required and must be maintained. Medication Administration is recommended. Prefer all teachers to have teaching certification.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Directly supervises all Assistant Teaching staff and Volunteers working in the classroom.

· Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with NEEC’s policies and procedures and all applicable regulatory bodies.

· Trains employees and volunteers on classroom routine, emergency evacuation procedures, special instructions for children and other classroom information.
