Corpus Christi, TX: Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Designer to support industrial engineering projects in the oil & gas, refinery, and chemical industries. This position is responsible for developing detailed electrical and instrumentation design drawings, coordinating with project teams and field personnel, and ensuring all deliverables meet industry standards, client specifications, and safety requirements. This is a long-term contract opportunity with relocation assistance available for qualified candidates.
Essential Duties:
- Develop detailed instrumentation and electrical design drawings using AutoCAD 2D, SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), and InTools.
- Produce and revise loop drawings, instrumentation layouts, hook-up drawings, junction box (JB) drawings, and control room documentation.
- Develop electrical design drawings including one-line diagrams, area classification drawings, grounding/earthing layouts, and power distribution layouts.
- Coordinate directly with site operations, technicians, engineers, and project teams to develop project scope and design requirements.
- Interface with document control and engineering teams to ensure accurate project documentation.
- Coordinate with vendors to obtain and incorporate vendor-specific information into project drawings.
- Perform quality reviews and validation of design deliverables prior to client submission.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable API, NEC, NFPA, and company standards.
Requirements/Skills:
- Diploma or certificate in Instrumentation and Electrical Design required.
- Minimum of 10 years of Instrumentation & Electrical Design experience in industrial environments.
- Strong AutoCAD 2D drafting experience required.
- Proficiency with SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) and InTools required.
- Experience designing instrumentation systems including field instrumentation, loop drawings, instrumentation layouts, hook-up drawings, and junction box drawings.
- Experience with low-voltage electrical design (480V and below) preferred.
- Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and API standards.
- Experience supporting projects within the oil & gas, refinery, chemical, or related industrial sectors.
- EPC or EPCM project experience preferred.
- Strong communication and coordination skills with engineering, operations, vendors, and project teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in both office and industrial plant environments.
- Ability to walk project sites and access various work areas as needed.
- Ability to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) while on-site.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
