Credit Analyst is an entry-level position where the successful applicant will learn to evaluate the financial health and risk profile of commercial, consumer and mortgage loan applicants. Successful applicants will learn to “spread” financial statements, conduct cash flow analyses and assist other analysts in underwriting commercial, consumer and mortgage loans, among other duties to build foundational credit and lending skills. Under general direction, this position’s primary responsibilities include performing credit analysis for consumer, mortgage and commercial loan customers.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Performs portfolio management responsibilities including:
- Commercial credit analysis by reviewing items including, but not limited to, credit reports, personal and business financial statements, tax returns, appraisals, property inspections, insurance and environmental reports to prepare credit packages for approval.
- Help prepare and analyze financial statement spreads to determine overall credit strengths and weaknesses of potential commercial, consumer and mortgage credit customers.
- Research prospective bank customers using internet, banking and trade references
- Underwrite1-4 Family Residential mortgage loans including FHA, VA and Conventional
- Assist credit staff with file reviews to ensure complete information.
- Assist Credit staff with preparation of clear and concise credit memos that include all pertinent information associated with the overall risk of each loan, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the borrower.
- Evaluate collateral, industry data and other relevant credit information.
- Assist with monitoring monthly borrowing base reports, portfolio reviews and other reports as assigned.
- Develop a working knowledge of the bank’s loan policy and systems.
- Assist with other duties or special projects as assigned.
- Prepares periodic reviews of existing loans to assess credit quality and covenant compliance
- May participate in research, preparation and execution of customer calls
- Prepares Annual Reviews on customers, to include but not limited to:
- Detailed analysis of financial statements
- Detailed collateral analysis
- Detailed analysis of debt service and covenant compliance
- Review of credit risk rating
- Borrower and Guarantor analysis
- Assessment of lending risks, clearly identifying offsetting mitigates and summarizing recommendations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, preferred
• Financial analysis experience in a commercial bank setting and/or equivalent credit training.
• Experience with discounted cash flow models, a plus.
• 1-3 years of related experience within commercial banking industry, preferred but not required.
• 1-4 family mortgage underwriting experience, a plus.
• Strong communication and analytical skills
• Strong PC skills (Microsoft Office)
• Good interpersonal skills, team oriented, and strong customer service skills
