Our client is seeking an experienced Toolroom Manager to lead tooling operations within a plastic injection molding manufacturing environment. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for tool maintenance and repair, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, tooling standards, supplier coordination, and developing the capabilities of the internal toolroom team. The ideal candidate combines strong injection mold/tooling expertise with hands-on machining knowledge and the leadership skills to improve tooling uptime, quality, and overall performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop toolroom employees while promoting a safe, team-oriented work environment.
- Manage tool maintenance, repairs, cleaning, preventive maintenance, and toolroom workload.
- Troubleshoot injection molding tooling issues related to scrap, cycle time, uptime, and production performance.
- Operate general toolroom equipment, including Bridgeport mills, surface grinders, manual lathes, and welding equipment.
- Support new tool launches, sampling, tool design reviews, and service procedures.
- Maintain tooling records, repair histories, modifications, and preventive maintenance documentation.
- Establish standard tooling PM procedures and spare tooling/Kanban systems.
- Coordinate tooling repairs with outside suppliers and ensure work meets quality and timing expectations.
- Develop internal tooling maintenance and mold-building capabilities.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with external tool shops.
- Partner with Engineering, Quality, Production, Operations, and other departments on tooling needs.
Qualifications
- Strong background in plastic injection molding tooling and mold maintenance.
- Hands-on experience with toolroom machining and repair equipment.
- Strong ability to read product and tooling blueprints.
- Understanding of automation systems and manufacturing equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related manufacturing software.
- Understanding of ISO requirements, FDA regulations, and GMP practices.
Preferred Experience
- 8+ years of plastic injection molding experience.
- Previous toolroom leadership or management experience.
- Journeyman accreditation.
- Experience with SpinFire and Microsoft Project.
- Formal training in toolroom maintenance management.
