Role Overview:
Pfister Energy is seeking a Solar Electrician to support operations and maintenance (O&M) of commercial and industrial solar PV systems, ensuring safe, reliable performance and maximum energy production across our Northeast and Mid-Atlantic portfolio.
Core Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on solar PV systems (rooftop, carport, ground‐mount), including visual inspections, torque checks, cleaning, and thermal imaging where applicable.
- Troubleshoot, test, and repair electrical components (combiners, inverters, switchgear, communications, monitoring systems) using appropriate diagnostic tools (multimeter, insulation tester, I/V curve tracer, etc.)
- Respond to service tickets and alarms, diagnose faults, execute repairs, and document findings with clear notes and photos in O&M reporting systems.
- Verify work against single‐line diagrams, wiring schematics, and manufacturer documentation, ensuring compliance with NEC and local electrical codes.
- Perform lockout/tagout, ground verification, and other safety procedures during energized and de‐energized work.
- Support commissioning, performance testing, and acceptance checks for new or upgraded PV systems as needed.
- Interface professionally with site personnel, customers, and internal teams, clearly communicating findings and recommendations.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Licensed electrician (Journeyman or equivalent) in New Jersey, OR strong electrical background with documented experience in PV systems and willingness to meet licensing requirements within a defined timeline.
- 3+ years experience in electrical work, with at least 2 years focused on solar PV installation, maintenance, or troubleshooting (commercial/industrial strongly preferred).
- Solid understanding of AC and DC electrical theory, PV system architecture, and grid‐tied systems (inverters, transformers, protection devices, monitoring).
- Proven ability to interpret electrical plans, single‐line diagrams, and manufacturer manuals.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record for regular travel to regional sites.
- Ability to work at heights, on rooftops, and in outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Certifications and Training:
- OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E (or equivalent electrical safety training).
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional, PV Technician, or other relevant NABCEP
- CPR/First Aid
- Familiarity with PV performance monitoring platforms, SCADA systems, and computerized maintenance management system.
Skills and Attributes:
- Strong troubleshooting skills with a methodical, data‐driven approach to fault finding and root‐cause analysis.
- High attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and compliance.
- Ability to work independently in the field while collaborating effectively with project managers, engineers, and fellow technicians.
- Clear written and verbal communication for service reports, customer interactions, and internal coordination.
- Comfortable with digital tools (tablet/phone apps, Excel, email, photo documentation) for work orders and reporting.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, carry equipment, and use hand and power tools safely.
- Comfortable climbing ladders, working at heights with fall protection, and accessing roofs or elevated structures.
- Able to stand, walk, and work outdoors for extended periods in hot, cold, or inclement weather.
- Willingness to travel to sites within New Jersey and neighboring regions as required by O&M schedules (day trips; occasional extended days possible).
