Job Title: PhlebotomistJob DescriptionThe Phlebotomist plays a critical role in supporting patient care by obtaining and preparing high-quality specimens for laboratory testing. This position partners closely with providers, laboratory staff, and clinical teams to ensure safe, accurate, and timely specimen collection while maintaining strict compliance with regulatory and quality standards. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, detail-oriented, and able to perform effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Responsibilities- Verify patient identity and test requisitions prior to specimen collection to ensure accuracy and patient safety.
- Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures in a professional, efficient, and compassionate manner.
- Maintain specimen integrity by using proper collection, labeling, and handling techniques for all samples.
- Document specimen collection information accurately and promptly within the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Organize specimens and laboratory reports for timely processing and delivery to the appropriate laboratory or department.
- Maintain laboratory quality control logs and documentation in accordance with established policies and regulatory standards.
- Monitor inventory levels and restock laboratory and phlebotomy supplies to ensure continuous availability.
- Assist with bone marrow collection procedures by preparing supplies, supporting clinicians, and ensuring proper specimen handling.
- Provide clear post-procedure instructions to patients following bone marrow collections to support safe recovery and follow-up.
- Support waived laboratory testing under the supervision of a technologist, following all applicable protocols and procedures.
- Communicate with providers to clarify discrepancies or unusual test orders and ensure appropriate follow-up.
- Maintain compliance with laboratory policies, OSHA requirements, legal regulations, and COLA standards at all times.
- Deliver strong patient interaction and customer service, helping patients feel comfortable and informed during procedures.
- Collaborate with the broader clinical team to support efficient patient flow and high-quality care.
Essential Skills- Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience performing venipuncture and specimen collection.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Formal phlebotomy training and demonstrated competency in blood draws and specimen collection.
- Knowledge of venipuncture techniques and specimen collection and handling procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
- Understanding of safety and legal requirements related to blood collection, including infection control and regulatory standards.
- Ability to properly identify and verify patients and match them with the correct test requisitions.
- Experience documenting specimen collections within electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Strong patient interaction and customer service skills, with a compassionate and patient-centered approach.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in labeling, documentation, and handling of specimens.
- Strong interpersonal and patient communication skills, including the ability to explain procedures and post-procedure instructions clearly.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and perform effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications- 2+ years of phlebotomy experience is preferred.
- ASCP Certification is preferred and considered a strong asset.
- Experience supporting bone marrow procedures and related specimen handling.
- Experience working in oncology, rheumatology, or other specialty clinic settings.
- Prior experience working in a laboratory environment, particularly in oncology or rheumatology-focused practices.
- Proficiency with EMR systems and comfort using technology in a clinical setting.
- Bilingual abilities are preferred and can enhance patient communication and service.
- Knowledge of waived laboratory testing procedures and workflows.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality, compassion, and service in patient care.
