GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Senior Accountant is responsible for providing accurate and relevant financial accounting reports for Hawthorn Senior Living, LLC, and related business entities in a professional, accurate and timely manner.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or equivalent education and experience is required.
- Minimum four years’ work experience required in financial accounting showing progressively increasing levels of responsibility.
- Knowledge in Yardi preferred
- Possess a working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Ability to analyze financial reports, identify areas of concern and make recommendations to Accounting Manager and/or Controller.
- Possess a working knowledge of how other modules affect the general ledger.
- Intermediate/Expert Excel Skills (pivot tables, v-lookups and formulas, power query)
- Must be detail-oriented with good organizational skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Regular, on-site attendance and punctuality is required as scheduled.
- Takes responsibility for maintaining current knowledge of the Hawthorn Senior Living Employee Handbook.
- Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and standards.
- Responsible for financial accounting records from general ledger through preparation of financial statements.
- Review budgets and prepare budget-to-actual variance analysis reports.
- Perform various reconciliations of accounts and financial analysis.
- Accumulate required tax package information for tax accountant.
- Prepare required statutory and other relevant reports, as assigned.
- Assist with external audit preparation, as needed.
- Train Staff Accountants I and II in all facets of Hawthorn Community accounting policies and procedures and serve as resource person.
- Monitor and review assigned Staff Accountants’ work to ensure Hawthorn Senior Living, LLC, and related business entity financial accounting reports are accurate, relevant and available in a timely manner.
- Ensure that various analytical reports are accurate and complete.
- Assist Accounting Manager with high level entity tasks as well as treasury tasks
- Maintain all required special project schedules, such as the debt service schedule.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned, such as:
o New Community accounting (pre-open through first six (6) months of operation)
· Assist when needed to Maintain Fixed Assets Module & CIP
· Compile and maintain outside entity distribution lists for rollup Reporting
· Provide back-up and support for Manager and report to Controller in Manager’s absence.
· Assist in field training
· Perform other duties as assigned according to Hawthorn policies and guidelines.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs all work assigned for the agreed-upon wage, accepting no additional payment or non-perishable gifts from residents, vendors, Community Management Teams or others.
