The technician performs echocardiographic studies, operates and maintains competency with related equipment, recognizes clinically significant findings and patient distress, and adapts procedures to obtain accurate results for patients with complicating conditions. **Essential Functions** **-** Perform diagnostic cardiac ultrasound examinations, including M-mode and two-dimensional studies, contrast diagnostic ultrasound, and bubble studies. **-** Perform pulsed-wave and continuous-wave Doppler ultrasound to identify and characterize intracardiac blood-flow patterns. **-** Perform transesophageal cardiac ultrasound and stress echocardiography using exercise or pharmacologic methods. **-** Apply knowledge of echocardiography equipment, standard tests, procedures, typical readings, arrhythmias, and abnormalities. **-** Recognize typical patient reactions and signs of distress; recognize, report, and respond to potentially lethal arrhythmias within the technician's authorized scope and established facility procedures. **-** Use common equipment settings and standardized procedures; identify common errors and apply corrective measures. **-** Modify procedures and patient positioning to obtain accurate results for patients with complicating conditions, including amputations, Parkinson's disease, structural defects, or scar tissue. **-** Serve as a mentor or preceptor to lower-graded technicians and conduct in-service training on echocardiography equipment and related instrumentation, as assigned. **-** Maintain current required competencies, certifications, continuing education, and VA-mandated training; provide supporting documentation upon request. **-** Perform additional duties as assigned. **Qualifications** **-** Minimum of two years of echocardiography experience. **-** Experience performing M-mode, two-dimensional, contrast, bubble, pulsed-wave Doppler, continuous-wave Doppler, transesophageal, and stress echocardiography. **-** Technical proficiency sufficient to fulfill contract requirements and provide the required care, treatment, and services. **-** Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently. **-** Ability to demonstrate current and ongoing competency, skills, certification, and/or licensure upon request of the Contracting Officer or Contracting Officer's Representative. **-** Highly desired: Current Cardiovascular Credentialing International Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credential. **-** Current Basic Life Support/Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications (preferred). **-** All continuing education required to maintain an applicable certification must remain current, with documentation available to the VA COR upon request. **-** Must satisfy applicable employment-authorization and E-Verify requirements and remain eligible to perform services under the federal contract. **-** Must remain eligible to participate in federal healthcare programs and satisfy required Office of Inspector General exclusion screening. **Required Training will be facilitated by the VA post-hire** Complete all VA educational and mandatory course requirements within VA-established timeframes, including: **-** Annual Government Ethics Training **-** Compliance and Business Integrity **-** Emergency Preparedness **-** GEMS **-** Infection Control **-** Hazardous Material **-** Medical Equipment Management **-** Prevention of Workplace Harassment / NO FEAR **-** Privacy and HIPAA Training **-** Safety **-** Security **-** Staff and Patient Boundaries **-** Utilities Management **-** VA Privacy and Information Security Awareness **-** Visitation **Core Competencies** **-** Patient-centered and safety-focused approach to clinical service delivery. **-** Strong attention to detail an
