ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITYProfessional Tree Care Co. is seeking an experienced Operations & Finance Manager to lead its Martinez-based sister company. The sister company you’ll lead is a financially independently entity that has a fantastic reputation in the tree care industry. Many of the folks you’ll work with have been in the business 20+ years and are expert at what they do. We have a long list of repeat customers, an organic marketing campaign that provides results, and our sales staff of Estimators are some of the most talented ISA-certified arborists around.
Reporting to PTC’s Director of Field Operations, you will work alongside the sister company’s Field Operations Manager while overseeing all staff members and being responsible for helping develop and meet annual goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Finance & Accounting- Perform all accounting functions including AP/AR, job costing, budgeting, and financial reporting
- Manage cash flow, forecasting, and financial controls
- Coordinate with external CPA for tax preparation and compliance
- Ensure and report accurate tracking of labor, equipment, and project profitability
Payroll & HR- Manage full-cycle payroll for a mixed hourly and salaried workforce in Contra Costa County
- Ensure compliance with California labor laws, wage/hour regulations, appropriate use of time-keeping apps on work cell phones, overtime authorization and pay, daily rest and lunch breaks, and serve as the company’s point of contact for emergencies and injuries
- Perform interviews and onboarding, manage employee records, benefits administration, E.D.D. reports, workers’ compensation, run background and DMV checks. Send new field candidates to get physical exams, and work with the parent company’s Human Resources & Payroll Manager as needed
- Develop and enforce clear HR policies, disciplinary systems, and performance management processes
Organizational Development- Lead change management initiatives with clarity and consistency in both English and Spanish
- Build structure and accountability across both office and field teams
- Help shape the company’s long-term operational and financial strategy
Leadership- Training the administrative staff to continue marketing and SEO efforts: post on social media, update and send out newsletters, contact clients for Google reviews, etc.
- Educating our inside sales staff about Plant Health Care and other services we offer
- Ensuring that the team is working collaboratively, sharing the workload, and making you aware of times when they need extra support or staff
- Keeping the work culture fun yet highly efficient
QUALIFICATIONS: - You’ve done this before and LOVE IT!
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (strongly preferred). The person in this position must communicate important concepts to a handful of staff members whose primary language is Spanish including: changes in company policies, teaching a new time-keeping application, reviewing OSHA & safety rules, etc.
- 5+ years of experience in management, operations management, or another leadership position, ideally in a residential service-based business (tree care, landscaping, construction, plumbing, HVAC, etc.)
- Strong accounting background with hands-on experience in payroll, financial reporting, and budgeting.
- Human Resources experience. As the company’s sole HR representative, you will be responsible for meeting with employees annually for their performance review, doing regional compensation analysis, providing raises when needed, writing employees up and putting them on PIPs (Performance Improvement Plans) when needed, processing EDD (Employment Development Dept.)
