We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to support a non-profit organization in San Francisco, California. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for someone who can manage end-to-end payroll with accuracy, work confidently in a mid-sized employee population, and contribute in a hands-on hybrid environment. The position requires strong experience with payroll processing, benefits-related allocations, and financial reconciliation while partnering closely with payroll leadership.
Responsibilities:
• Process semi-monthly payroll for an employee population of approximately 500 staff members, with a large share of non-exempt employees, ensuring timely and accurate pay.
• Administer full-cycle payroll activities using Paycom, including payroll validation, review of earnings and deductions, and resolution of discrepancies before finalization.
• Prepare payroll-related benefit allocations and support accounting entries tied to payroll activity to maintain accurate financial records.
• Generate and review journal entry exports from the payroll system, including large-volume transaction files, and assist with reconciliations as needed.
• Coordinate manual check processing on-site when required and help address urgent payroll matters in a timely manner.
• Partner with the payroll supervisor and provide additional team support during a period of limited internal coverage.
• Help maintain compliance with multi-state payroll requirements, wage and hour rules, and standard payroll practices across the workforce.
• Support payroll administration needs related to workforce changes, including evolving union-related payroll considerations when applicable.• 3-5 years of payroll experience, including recent work in a Payroll Specialist or similar role.
• Proven experience processing full-cycle payroll for a mid-sized organization with roughly 300 to 500 employees.
• Hands-on experience using Paycom for payroll processing is required.
• Working knowledge of multi-state payroll practices and compliance considerations.
• Experience handling payroll accounting support, including benefit allocations, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Ability to work in a hybrid schedule with on-site availability in San Francisco, California, including in-office support for manual checks when needed.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to manage high-volume payroll data effectively.
• Familiarity with non-exempt employee payroll processing in a complex workforce environment.
