Initiates, monitors and maintains mechanically ventilated patients. Assists with placement of artificial airways. Performs and documents patient assessment including breath sounds, airway patency and cuff pressure at least once per shift. Verifies and documents ventilator function and patient status q4h minimum. Assists with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients. Assists at deliveries as requested for neonatal resuscitation and/or stabilization. Administers and monitors respiratory care treatments. Evaluates patient within 2 hours of notification of respiratory therapy orders and initiates as stated. Instructs patient and family members in proper methods of respiratory therapy. Records pertinent information in patient’s medical record. Accurately documents all respiratory care interventions. Provides oncoming shift with current and accurate patient report. Performs noninvasive and invasive diagnostic tests and monitoring.
