Perform Nuclear Medicine exams in accordance with SDMC Medical Imaging protocols. Administer prescribed pharmaceutical grade radioactive materials to patients as outlined by state/federal regulations. Demonstrate appropriate radioactive materials safety measures for self, other staff and patients as outlined by state/federal regulations. Explain procedures to patients prior to exam. Demonstrate proficiency with equipment used for NM exams (Spect Cameras, and PACS). Ensure availability of physician for procedures requiring the administration of medications and supervision. Perform duties to maintain department functions such as QC checks. Maintain required documentation regarding radioactive materials, both upon receipt and prior to administration. Perform surveys and document findings of work area, patient rooms, and radioactive waste storage area at appropriately scheduled intervals. Adhere to policies related to Standard Precautions, Infection Control, and Radiation Safety guidelines as described by TDHS and Joint Commission. Work with Radiation Safety Officer in maintaining quality control and quality assurance guidelines to ensure all regulatory standards are met, i.e., Texas Dept. of Health and Bureau of Radiation Control.
