As a veterinary pharmacy technician you will process and prepare medications for animal patients under the supervision of our licensed veterinarians. You will manage pharmaceutical inventory, calculate specific dosages, and educate pet owners on medication administration and potential side effects. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and a strong understanding of animal pharmacology
Key Responsibilities
- Dispensing: Accurately measure, label, and fill prescriptions for in-hospital and outpatient animal patients.
- Inventory Management: Oversee pharmacy stock levels, order supplies, receive deliveries, and monitor medications for expiration. Technicians must also manage and securely log controlled substances according to state and federal regulations.
- Client Education: Consult with pet owners, explaining exactly how to safely administer medications, store drugs correctly, and watch for any adverse side effects.
- Veterinary Collaboration: Coordinate closely with veterinarians and clinical staff to ensure correct medications are prepared for surgeries, exams, and hospitalized patients.
- Qualifications & Requirements
- Education & Certification: A high school diploma is standard. Preferred status will be given to Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT) credential, or the willingness to obtain one shortly after hiring. A combination of experience and education may substitute for credentials.
- Pharmacology Knowledge: An understanding of pharmaceutical calculations, medication safety, and veterinary-specific terminology is essential.
- Work Environment: Must be comfortable working in fast-paced, sometimes stressful medical environment and should feel at ease around animals and clinical procedures
