Large Loads Solutions Engineer to lead technical discussions and value propositions as GridStor’s representative in front of hyperscalers, colocation providers, and AIDC developers. You will be the primary technical owner for these fast paced large loads opportunities. This role requires a blend of high-level conceptual design, sharp understanding of economic dispatch and value stacking of energy storage solutions applied to BTM customers, and sophisticated stakeholder management to move projects toward a successful Final Investment Decision. This position will report to the Director of Preconstruction and will be based in Portland, OR, with a hybrid work schedule.
Key Responsibilities:- Engineering & Design (Conceptual to 30%)
- Develop hybrid system designs (storage + generation) with controls and dispatch strategy.
- Progress to 30% design packages, including site layouts, single-line diagrams, and civil, structural, and electrical site plans. Ready project for handover at FID to construction team.
- Lead the technical components of RFI/RFPs for large loads. Determine optimal system configurations, sizing, and the Bill of Materials (BOM) including BESS, PCS, and Medium Voltage (MV) transformers.
- Support modeling and grid simulations to demonstrate project specific solutions for use-cases such as load smoothing, voltage ride-through, frequency support, and grid-forming.
- Develop technical bulletins, case studies, and other related internal and external-facing technical documentation.
- Strategy and Value Proposition
- Be the technical interface with large load customers
- Define strategies (which type of offtakes to target) for large load/data center applications including transient for load smoothing, frequency/voltage ride through and other applicable modes.
- Support build-out and preparing of techno-economic models optimizing revenue, capex, opex and technical design constraints
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner directly with the VP of Business Development and T&I Director to draft and execute technical exhibits for offtake agreements.
Qualifications & Competencies: - Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years in technical sales, applications engineering or systems engineering in renewable energy or critical power industry. Direct experience in data center power systems highly preferred.
