About This Opportunity - The Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing the Quality Systems, Quality Engineering, and Quality Control departments for our metals fabrication business. This leadership position holds overall departmental responsibilities, interfacing directly with customers and suppliers regarding quality processes, standards, and improvements. The role has ultimate accountability for Product Quality, Regulatory Compliance, and Continual Process Improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Directly manage Quality Engineering as a working manager, acting as the site subject matter expert (SME) to improve processes and collaborate with cross-functional departments.
- Quality Control Oversight: Manage the Quality Control group, directing the inspector team to effectively detect, track, and resolve product quality issues on the production floor.
- Continuous Improvement: Utilize statistical techniques to detect trends, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop department inspection capabilities and efficiencies.
- Customer & Supplier Interface: Act as the "Voice of the Customer" during internal communications. Initiate and attend meetings with customers for continuous product/process improvement, cost reductions, and compliance mapping.
- Documentation & Standards: Review and revise work orders, create/review operating procedures, and develop Quality Management System (QMS) documentation under corporate guidance.
- Issue Resolution: Manage customer returns/complaints, non-conforming products, and defective materials, including the Material Review Board (MRB). Oversee disposition and root-cause corrective actions.
- QMS Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with the ISO 9001 Quality Management System standard and foster an organizational culture that understands high-quality manufacturing applications.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Applicable Engineering Degree or equivalent technical discipline.
- Metals Experience: 10+ years of experience within a metals manufacturing environment or a similar highly engineered industrial sector.
- Quality & Compliance: 5+ years of progressive experience in inspection and quality assurance within a regulated manufacturing environment. Deep familiarity with QA/QC systems.
- Leadership Experience: 5+ years of direct people management experience.
- Technical Standards: Strong working knowledge of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, its implementation, and the creation of operating procedures/work instructions.
- Metrology & Validation: Strong background in general inspection, product/process validation, and metrology, including the design of fixtures and utilization of advanced inspection tools.
