Job Title: Master TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Master Technician will perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on electric, hybrid, and conventional vehicles in a high-quality service environment. This role focuses on electric vehicle systems, requires current ASE or OEM electric vehicle certification, and involves supervising and mentoring other technicians while ensuring all work meets established safety, quality, and efficiency standards.
Responsibilities- Diagnose and repair electric, hybrid, and conventional vehicles using schematics, diagnostic equipment, and established procedures.
- Perform work as outlined on repair orders with a high level of efficiency and accuracy, adhering to company and manufacturer standards.
- Determine the cause of vehicle malfunctions and complete appropriate repairs on electrical, mechanical, and EV systems.
- Communicate proactively with the parts department to obtain required parts and materials for each repair.
- Save and tag parts from repairs when work is performed under warranty or when requested by the technical team.
- Thoroughly examine assigned vehicles to identify additional safety or service needs and recommend further work as appropriate.
- Inform the shop foreman immediately if additional work is needed, if requested work is unnecessary, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised timeframe.
- Document all work performed and recommended services clearly and completely on the work order.
- Road test vehicles when required to verify the quality and accuracy of repairs, or coordinate road tests through the shop foreman.
- Stay current with manufacturer technical bulletins and recall information, especially for electric and hybrid vehicle platforms.
- Supervise and guide other technicians, providing hands-on training, mentorship, and support on maintenance processes and protocols.
- Train newer technicians on electric vehicle maintenance, safety procedures, and standard operating processes.
- Maintain accountability for all company-owned tools, diagnostic equipment, and manuals, ensuring they are returned to their proper place and kept in good condition.
- Interact professionally with customers when needed, presenting a knowledgeable and approachable demeanor that instills confidence in service quality.
- Support 24/7 shop coverage, including openness to working weekends and overnight shifts as needed.
Essential Skills- At least 2 years of hands-on experience working with electric vehicles (EV), including diagnosis, maintenance, and repair.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an automotive mechanic or technician working on a variety of vehicle platforms.
- Master-level technician experience with strong proficiency in both mechanical and electrical systems.
- Electric Vehicle certification from ASE or an original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
- A minimum of 4 ASE certifications and the willingness and ability to obtain additional ASE certifications within 1 year.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, including experience with electrical wiring and fuses.
- Proficiency using diagnostic equipment, technical schematics, and manufacturer service information.
- Demonstrated experience training and mentoring newer technicians on maintenance processes and protocols.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams, including parts department and shop leadership.
- Customer-facing skills with a professional, presentable appearance suitable for interactions with service customers.
- Ability to work overnight shifts and weekends as part of a 24/7 service operation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- ASE Certified Master Technician or progression toward master-level certification.
- Experience working specifically on hybrid vehicles and electric vehicle platforms in a service shop environment.
- Strong familiarity with manufacturer technical bulletins, recalls, and service campaigns.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume service center with performance and attendance expectations.
- Experience supervising a team of technicians and coordinating workflow in a service bay or shop.
- Commitment to ongoing training and staying current with evolving EV technologies and diagnostic methods.
