Conducts patient assessments to establish diet and food guidelines. Reviews patient medical orders. Develops and implements individualized medical nutrition therapy plans. Provides therapeutic plans for specialized nutrition support (enteral and parenteral). Works cooperatively with Food Service staff. Calculates nutritional requirements and identifies food/drug interactions. Completes nutritional assessments and participates in interdisciplinary comprehensive assessments. Develops or obtains patient nutrition education materials. Assesses patient knowledge of diet and provides education. Monitors adherence and response to nutrition therapy. Plans menus to meet patient needs. Documents nutritional care plans and patient response. Serves as a nutritional care resource. Directs clinical supportive staff. Participates in staff and committee meetings. Conducts rounds to identify nutritional problems. Provides ongoing nutrition assessment and counseling. Communicates and coordinates with physicians and other healthcare personnel. Evaluates food served for quality standards and dietary prescriptions. Performs other duties as assigned.
