The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for assisting the Engineer Manager and Team
Leads with the administrative and training duties within the Engineering Department in each of
our offices on a day-to-day basis. The Sr. Engineer will also be called on as a key technical
resource for the engineers and others within the company. In the technical advisor role, it is
expected that the Senior Engineer will assist in providing structured training and technical
mentorship for the engineers within the department along with project managers and project
engineers. This person must have a deep understanding of the California Sate codes as well as
the intricacies of mechanical systems and an overall knowledge of construction. to create and
timely deliver on all aspects of a project’s design. A Design Engineer shall effectively and
cohesively work with all team members and trade partners. The intent is to develop permits and
construction documents, while simultaneously providing field support and coordination.
Responsibilities
The job responsibilities for the Senior Engineer apply to both HVAC and Plumbing
engineering department responsibilities.
Assist Project Managers to present and explain proposals, systems, findings and options
to clients, general contractors and engineers
Work with Project Managers and the engineering staff to prepare or refine the project
scope
Assist Team Leads perform site visits with younger engineers and project managers to
review and evaluate existing mechanical systems and provide energy and/or
performance solutions
Assist Team Leads and other Engineers evaluate feasibility of new equipment or
modifying existing systems considering costs, available space, time limitations, energy
goals, project timeline and related economic factors.
Responsible for working with the Team Leads to go through the QA/QC process on their
projects both at milestone dates as well as prior to the Issue for Construction
Assist other Team Leads and Engineers interface with project managers and field staff
throughout the design and construction of projects
May be called on to assist the Engineering Manager to help; plan, direct and coordinate
the engineering activities of both in-house as well as outsourced engineering teams
Assist other Team Leads and Engineers providing by supervision and/or technical
direction (i.e., print interpretation, code interpretation, design intent, construction
feasibility) to engineers, crafts, and/or superintendents to ensure work is completed in
proper sequence
Provide feedback to the Engineering Manager with ongoing assessment of technical
skillset, organization skills and productivity of junior engineers they are working with
Create ongoing training and development plans for each engineer as needed for their
growth and development within the company
Assist the Engineering Manager mentor junior engineers
Assist Team Leads and Engineers by providing interpretations of all external codes,
regulations, and specifications
Assist Team Leads and Engineers by providing valuable engineering direction for
Company engineering activities
As needed, assist Team Leads and Engineers with providing reviews and input to
approve field design change requests prepared by field and area engineers
Minimum Qualifications
5-10 years’ experience in the commercial construction space
Educational and experience requirements include: 4-year engineering degree or
equivalent
Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate preferred, but not required
Excellent understanding of engineering fundamentals
Working knowledge of system types, equipment, installation standards and procedures
is necessary
Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate with others is essential
Must be fully versed in local and State building codes
Must be proficient in use of Trace 700 and AutoCAD Version 2023 or later
Revit 2023 or BIM experience is preferred
Prior experience with mechanical contractors or engineering consultants preferred
