Job Summary and Qualifications
The Respiratory Therapist Lead shall deliver competent and compassionate Respiratory Care services to patients of all age groups through the of use accepted Clinical Practice Guidelines for assessing, treating and documenting the effects of Respiratory Care provided to patients. The Respiratory Therapist Lead shall work cooperatively with physicians, nursing staff, ancillary staff, and other members of the patent care team utilizing an interdisciplinary approach to maintain standards for professional practices. Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment. The function of the Respiratory Therapist Lead shall be carried out according to departmental and hospital policies, HCA Medical Center’s mission statement and Standards of Behavior guidelines.
What you will do in this role:
- Cleans, assembles, maintains, operates, troubleshoots and performs minor repair on all equipment.
- Performs general respiratory therapy to all ages in accordance with age specific criteria including incentive breathing devices, aerosol therapy, chest physiotherapy, oxygen therapy and suctioning.
- Collects and evaluates additional information through chart review, general assessment and patient interviews.
- Performs and modifies (or changes) treatments based on response to therapy.
- Evaluates and monitors response to all therapy with appropriate documentation in the medical record.
- Provides critical care services to patients of all ages in accordance with age specific criteria.
- Reviews patient records.
- Manages and makes adjustments to mechanical ventilators, including weaning.
- Assists with endotracheal intubation and performs extubations.
- Participates in CPR, patient transport, and monitoring.
- Inspects chest X-Ray to determine presence of abnormalities, artificial airway position and other conditions.
- Maintains a patent airway by providing adequate humidification, and oral/nasopharyngeal airway suctioning.
- Performs and evaluates diagnostic studies to include bedside spirometry, pulmonary mechanics and blood gas analysis
