Job Description:
- Meeting with expectant mothers for prenatal visits and providing care for normal and problematic pregnancies.
- Monitoring fatal heartbeat and length and strength of contractions during labour.
- Coaching women, assisting with any complications, and administering medications during birth.
- Performing tests on newborns after birth.
- Providing guidance to new mothers on all aspects of recovery and infant care.
- Using equipment and administering medications related to labour, delivery, and the care of newborns. Patient population includes, Females of childbearing years, pregnant 17 weeks gestation, labouring, scheduled procedures (C-sections, external cephalic versions, cerclage (we try not to do these on the unit)), and Triage issues.
- The activity on the unit includes admissions, discharges, transfers, pre-op, and deliveries (vaginal and C/S).
- Common equipment used in Labor and Delivery includes Fatal Monitors, Cerner, and Feta link documentation.
- BLS & ACLS – Required
- NRP – Required
- AWHONN - Intermediate electronic fatal monitoring – Required
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in state/district – Required
- L&D Experience - Required: 3 Years
