Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Support the inventory and distribution of clinical trial samples.
· Performs activities in support of daily sample management operations including (but not limited to): inventory tracking, processing, distribution, storage, preparation, withdrawal, and destruction of biological samples.
· Technician is responsible for clinical sample receipt, identification verification, processing, shipping and storage.
· Processes large volumes of sample shipments received for multiple protocols.
· Accurately prepares lab specimens and containers as required for testing for specific studies.
· Must be able to prioritize workload in response to the specific needs of numerous protocols and department.
· Maintains an efficient, well organized laboratory, manages supplies, and maintains quality control programs
· May be asked to suggest and implements process improvements to ensure smooth flow of samples for testing
· Must use good judgement and independent problem solving skills
· Ensures accurate storage for all sample inventory utilizing LIMS
· Prepare sample aliquots when needed and make deliveries to clients as required
· Work closely with manager to support sample pick up
· Accurately prepares samples for outbound shipments to central labs for long term storage
· Organize and maintain quarantined samples distributions for testing and when returned
· Keep management informed of day to day progress, including deviations from the normal
· Performs internal specimen consolidation and reorganization projects under the guidance of Clinical Samples Manager.
· Understanding the Standard Operating Procedures and equipment associated with his/her duties.
· Trains and assist other employees in the equipment, software, and processes of the biorepository
· Receives more general instruction and guidance on each component of work that will be overseen by their supervisor
· Performance of other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Job Requirements
· Minimum 1-2 years of related work experience is required. Some undergraduate biological science coursework or certificate is preferred.
· Some undergraduate biological science coursework or certificate preferred.
· Prefer work experience with data entry, shipping/receiving and sample management.
· Prefer knowledge of methods to handle, process, and store biospecimens using a computerized storage and retrieval system.
· Prefer knowledge of Universal Precautions, general laboratory, and quality assurance/ control.
· Requires ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form.
· Requires knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Word and LIMS.
· Ability to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, hazardous and infectious agents, marked changes in temperature.
· Must use personal protective equipment and adhere to safety protocols.
· Must be able to lift, push and carry up to 50lbs.
· Must be able to process and handle materials frozen on dry ice (-78◦C) or liquid nitrogen (-196◦C) for up to 6 hours per day.
· Must be able to use a computer up to 6 hours per day.
