PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Buyer/Scheduler Production is responsible for the material flow through the repetitive production area. This includes coordinating, planning, buying, and scheduling daily production of the repetitive manufacturing processes and managing inventory levels based upon customer demand. This position interfaces with suppliers, manufacturing / production management, buyers, and customers to optimize inventory, improve production flow and increase customer satisfaction.
PRIMARY DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and manage production schedules and ensures shipment of manufactured products for timely delivery to customers. Adjust and maintain work order due dates.
- Work with Manufacturing Manager, Test Engineer, and Market Manager to ensure all issues related to the schedule are handled effectively and resolved.
- Review and analyze part usage and lead-time data; analyze and address changing material demand patterns as required. Perform Root Cause Counter Measure when shortages occur.
- Manage order policy parameters (safety stock, maximum on hand, lead-time, minimum order quantity) for assigned parts to optimize component level inventory while achieving established weekly pump lead-time and meeting any aftermarket requirements.
- Monitor and review inventory turns and make recommendations for improvement.
- Review backlog (new and open sales orders), stock suggestions and MRP suggestions utilizing Epicor system tools and reports. Act on suggestions, print work cards/travelers. Release jobs and issue materials.
- Verify quantities of incoming materials for assigned part numbers are consistent with short-term needs and make supply/transportation decisions to support production plans. Looking out 3-4 weeks and perform PO date maintenance as required.
- Monitor supplier lead-times and on-time delivery, and work with suppliers and logistical services to improve performance and satisfy customer requirements.
- Daily review, analyze and firm new PO suggestions for assigned part numbers based on actual and forecast demand.
- Assist resupply team in reviewing/adjusting/refining demand drivers to assure adequate material supply.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing team, Engineering, Suppliers and Customers to minimize variation in design and facilitate inventory optimization.
- Support physical and spot check inventory processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SPECIAL SKILLS:
- The candidate for this position must be an effective communicator across all company disciplines.
- Capable of working effectively in urgent/critical situations and be well organized.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering Discipline, Supply Chain Management required.
- A minimum of 3-5 years’ work experience in a build to order or repetitive manufacturing environment is required.
- A working knowledge of an ERP system and Microsoft Office products
- Knowledge of inventory controls: point of use supplies, single piece flow, supermarkets, reorder points.
- Occasional travel in this position is expected (<5%) – facility/supplier/customer visits.
