The Carroll County Attorney’s Office has an immediate opening for a Victim Services Assistant.
The successful candidate will have a BA/BS degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or related field with experience in social work, crisis intervention, criminal justice, or a related field which involves public contact. Knowledge of New Hampshire law as it relates to victim rights and restitution; legislative issues and changes which affect victims’ rights; criminal justice system procedures and legal terminology; and crisis intervention methods and techniques required. A New Hampshire notary or Justice of the Peace preferred.
Strong written and verbal communications to include speaking to other agencies and representatives on behalf of the victim to ensure rights and to provide assistance when deemed appropriate/necessary. The ability to network within community outreach organizations to keep updated resource information, provide pertinent case information to victims and/or representatives, and encourage participation in the prosecution of crimes by empowering the victim with knowledge and information about the criminal justice process and the cycles of violence. Must be able to recognize behavioral problems and interact effectively with victims who may be highly emotional or in a crisis situation, remaining calm and utilize appropriate communication techniques in high stress situations, and evaluate an immediate situation in order to provide appropriate information or referral services.
Duties include thorough case documentation using both paper-based and computer automated case management systems; maintaining statistical records on victims served and services provided; and working with the prosecuting attorneys and staff to improve services to victims. Educate individuals and agencies regarding the needs and rights of victims, recommend policy and procedures revisions as deemed necessary, and facilitate victim-related community outreach activities.
