We are seeking a Senior Marine Electrical Applications Engineer to be responsible for the design, integration, and optimization of electrical systems for new shipbuilding projects and vessel modifications. This role involves developing detailed electrical designs, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring all systems meet industry standards and client specifications. This role involves developing detailed electrical designs, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring all systems meet industry standards and client specifications. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in marine electrical engineering, a deep understanding of marine electrical systems, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Sr Marine Electrical Applications Engineer Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical systems for marine vessels, including power distribution, lighting, navigation, communication, and automation systems.
- Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation to support the fabrication and installation of electrical systems.
- Perform calculations for electrical load, cable sizing, circuit protection, and grounding in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
- Collaborate with naval architects, mechanical engineers, and project managers to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with overall vessel design.
- Review and interpret client specifications, regulatory requirements, and classification society rules (e.g., ABS, DNV, U.S. Coast Guard) to ensure compliance.
- Lead the electrical design team, providing technical guidance, mentoring, and support to junior engineers and designers.
- Conduct design reviews and technical evaluations, identifying potential issues and recommending solutions to improve system performance and reliability.
- Support the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems, including troubleshooting and resolving any technical issues that arise during construction.
- Interface with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to discuss technical requirements, coordinate deliverables, and resolve any design or installation challenges.
- Keep up-to-date with advancements in marine electrical technology and integrate innovative solutions into project designs.
- BSEE or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Marine, or Mechanical Engineering or significant industry experience
- 5 -15 years commercial maritime or military electrical engineering working experience
- Demonstrated strategic planning and analytical skills, technical writing skills, problem solving and organizational skills
- Experience with Ship Constructor Software, AutoCAD 3D and MS Office Suite
