The Cardiac Nurse Practitioner (CNP) provides specialized care for patients with cardiovascular conditions under the supervision of a cardiologist or in collaboration with a healthcare team. This role involves diagnosing and managing complex cardiac conditions, implementing treatment plans, and offering education and support to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Assessment and Diagnosis:

   • Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assess patients’ cardiovascular health.
   • Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and laboratory results.
   • Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient needs and test results.

2. Treatment and Management:

   • Prescribe medications and manage therapeutic regimens for cardiovascular conditions.
   • Collaborate with cardiologists to develop and modify treatment plans.
   • Perform procedures such as inserting and managing central lines or pacemakers, if applicable.

3. Patient Education and Counseling:

   • Educate patients and their families about cardiovascular diseases, treatment options, and lifestyle modifications.
   • Provide guidance on managing chronic conditions, including diet, exercise, and medication adherence.

4. Collaboration and Communication:

   • Work closely with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
   • Document patient interactions, treatment plans, and progress in electronic health records (EHRs).

5. Quality Improvement and Compliance:

   • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and safety.
   • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices.

6. Emergency Care:

   • Respond to acute cardiovascular events and provide emergency care as needed.
   • Assist in the stabilization and transfer of patients to specialized care if required.

Qualifications:

• Licensure: Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in NJ.
• Certification: Board certification as a Cardiac Nurse Practitioner or equivalent is preferred.
